Foundation earns highest rating for financial management

Often, when people hear the words “audit report,” their eyes glaze over and they pray they won’t have to read it, much less hear someone report on it.

That should not be the case, writes Rev. Dr. P. Glenn Kinken, III, the Foundation’s Financial Practices Team Leader. An audit is the definitive report card on an institution’s handling of its own finances and the resources of its clients.

Independent auditors at Foard and Company have given (graded, if you will) the Foundation’s financial stewardship the highest rating (an unqualified opinion). This signifies that the handling and accounting of the Foundation’s and its clients’ resources is done responsibly and with the utmost integrity (one of the Foundation’s core values).

United Methodism is founded on accountability. In today’s world, it is probably more important than ever. People want to know institutions are keeping watch over gifts given for the glory of God.

Constituents used terms such as “trustworthy” and “best interest of others” to describe what comes to mind when they think of the Foundation. Those responses were shared in listening sessions last year as part of a strategic visioning process to identify needs and priorities.

Prospective and current clients weighing the overall advantages of investing with the Foundation can take comfort in knowing that the staff and leadership take their fiduciary responsibility seriously and work diligently to maintain financial integrity.

Just as importantly, a clean bill of health each year since our inception enables the Foundation to make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.
